SS Earth

when The Sun has gone
and the world's adrift
flung into space
flying, swift

when cosmic rays
and dense space dust
threaten the few
that remain of us

when eternal night
flecked with stars
is eclipsed further
by faithful Mars

when the blizzard
which swirled for years
finally ends
and the last wind clears

when you think
humankind is done
we will survive
there will be a new sun

we built this ship
to carry us far
Earth is our home
